BCCed definition and meaning

bee-see-seed · past-tense verb; past participle

BCCED

What does BCCed mean?

BCCed means sent an email copy using the blind-carbon-copy field, or included someone as a blind-copy recipient.

What does BCCED mean in a crossword?

The email field is BCC, three letters. Adding the past-tense ending gives BCCED, five letters, for wording such as “Secretly included on an email.” Ordinary writing also uses bcc'd; that spelling normalizes to BCCD, so do not assume every written variant fits five squares.

Why is BCCED useful to learn?

Separate the sender's action from the recipient's visibility. “I BCCed Jo” describes adding Jo; “Jo was BCCed” describes receiving that copy. To/Cc recipients do not see the Bcc list, but the sender still knows whom they included.

Common clue patterns

  • Included as a blind-copy recipient — past tense
  • Sent a hidden-recipient copy — email verb
  • Added to Bcc rather than visible Cc — past participle

Other meanings to watch

BCCed does not mean the email is encrypted or hidden from its sender. In Gmail, Bcc recipients can see To/Cc recipients, but not other Bcc recipients; a To/Cc recipient's Reply all does not include them. CCed refers to a visible carbon copy instead.
