Data sources, confidence marks, and licenses
Clue Tutor separates exact editorial work from broad lexical candidates so that a useful suggestion is never presented as an exact reviewed answer.
Candidate marks
Reviewed exact. The exact clue-answer pair has an editorially reviewed hint and explanation.
Reviewed related. A reviewed clue or recurring clue family is relevant, but crossings still decide the exact fill.
Dictionary candidate. The fill comes from licensed lexical matching rather than an exact reviewed clue-answer pair.
Three data tiers
- Reviewed editorial pairs: 588 selected clue pages with original or materially reviewed hints, definitions, signals, and explanations.
- Licensed lexical candidates: 139,207 pattern and meaning candidates generated from Princeton WordNet 3.1. They help the private solver but do not become indexed clue pages automatically.
- Source intelligence: Git-ignored local records used for freshness, ranking, and coverage analysis. Full publisher grids and answer lists are not published.
Princeton WordNet
WordNet groups English nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs into related senses with definitions and semantic relationships. Clue Tutor filters the licensed data for answer length, usable definitions, and the site's non-adult content boundary.
The WordNet license permits use, copying, modification, and distribution for any purpose without fee or royalty, provided its copyright and disclaimer remain with distributed copies.

Publication boundary
A dictionary candidate is never automatically converted into a public explanation page. Public clue pages require a verified clue-answer relationship and an independent editorial review. Use the feedback form when a candidate or explanation is wrong or unclear.
